It would seem that adding water cooling would allow them to tighten up the motor a bit and get more power without having to continue to increase displacement and compression as they've been doing for the last few years. The newest motors are running such high compression that the heat from the motor has gotten out of control.

What I hope they do next is to completely water-cool the engines, then to move the fuel tank under the seat to more centralize the mass and get away from some top heaviness. They (HD) is not going to want to hear this, but they need to take some tips from other manufacturers, and likewise, the other manufacturers need to take some tips from HD regarding their mastery of promotion.

I agree KAW but Harley has zero reason to change. Their customers are largely buying the name and the image, ignoring pesky issues like modern engineering and materials

Yep, and for those reasons will NOT be selling me a Harley anytime soon. Until they get something with more than a V-twin and is water cooled and more modern than there basically decades old designs, I and I'm sure a lot of others won't be getting their products. They keep slowly getting better, but way too slowly.

Actually, it's about time Harley started their catch-up.  Not to dis any Harley owners, but here is a truthful vid on the brand.

Stopped by the boutique last night.  No it is head only cooling, they are doing a lot on ABS, the fairing has a cool new dsign, and they now have the auto based intelli screen device, new gauges, and some new rims.  Oh and stouter forks.  But Rushmore is on the Ultra, and limited tours and the trikes only.

Still the same block (the 103) with liquid heads.  By the way, the floor was EMPTY of people, and the sales guy got pissed when I dared utter the Indian word.

Bit on the harsh side, but there is some truth in the vid.
