Did you try pushing down on it as you twist?

I tried that hoping it would make the mechanism pop, my finances uncle suggested wd40, it didn't work after sitting for 15 minutes.  Still can't get it open, I don't want to rush running out of fuel on the way home

After reading your other post, you say the key spins freely in the lock? If so, I think your buying a new gas cap.

Sorry, I don't mean that it spins freely, but the key turns with no obstruction, in the manner it is designed to, and I can feel the mechanism unlatch ing properly, I just don't know what is causing it to get stuck.

Can you get your fingernails under the edge and lift as you turn? Disregard. That wouldn't make sense as you are supposed to push down as you turn.

Not sure what to advise you to do.

let it sit over night....maybe the cooler fuel will release some of the pressure on the cap.
