Another question for the assembled masses!
How can I improve the headlight on my bike?  It's like a fairy light on a Christmas tree, absolutly no good as something to see where you are going!!
I tried one of those "blue" bulbs from Hong Kong via ebay but although it was a little better it didn't last long.
I'm thinking that I might fit a couple of better lights on a sort of crash bar mounted either side of the existing headlight but I guess they could only be about 25watts each?
So maybe the alternative answer would br a new main light at about 55 watts.  Any ideas please?

I think a replacement headlight would work on your bike, and definitely provide more illumination.  Here's one on ebay that might work:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTORCYCLE-CUSTOM-CHROME-HEADLIGHT-6-3-4-METRIC-CRUISER-HEAD-LIGHT-LOW-HIGH-BEAM-/150857244400?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231fcadef0&vxp=mtr

On the crash bar lights, I had a bike where I used two Kuryakyn Silver Bullets - they were 20watt halogens, and they did a good job of helping me be seen - the triangle formed by my headlight with the two bullet lights makes you more noticeable out there.  They also helped a bit with more illumination at night.

That double headlight looks great.
How much better is the light output and what wattage are the bulbs?

It is a H3 bulb versus the scooter bulb that comes with the stock headlight, so it is much brighter.

One thing I discovered about the H3 bulb setup after I got the light is the H3 come as high or low beam, so when I have high beam on, the left light is lit up and when I have low beam on the right bulb is lit, but it is still tons better than the stock setup for light output.  I drive to work at night and the H3 bulb really makes a difference.  If the only one light on at a time puts you off, you can always look for a headligth setup that uses a H4 bulb.  The headlight I have does not come in a H4 setup.

The dual relay setup we made for the wiring harness is optional, but we did it to make sure there were no problems caused in the harness or the high/low bean switch due to more power being drawn through the stock wires.  Folks here have installed new lights without doing it and seem to not have any problems, but we have had a couple of bikes in the shop that have melted the lighting circuits and/or switches due to too much power being drawn through.

I installed a 5 3/4" x 9" bullet "stealth" headlight on my Spyder. It came with an H4 bulb and its pretty bright for night time riding. I purchased it on ebay for around $100.

Just ordered a 50/50 "blue" halogen bulb from China.  Rumour has it that the electrical system can handle the extra watts.  Any comments?

maybe, but for how long? I upgraded to a Drag Specialties H-4 unit and installed a 35w halogen low / 35w HID high beam so there shouldn't be any excess strain on the charging system....
