2009 GV650 AE

Wondering if my fuel pump is starting to go out.

So I got my bike back from the shop. Replaced plugs and cam chain tensioner (all under extended warranty; note: I normally do all my work and I don't trust ANY shop) Rode home fine 60+ miles at 70mph. Cool.

Fast forward a week later.

So after monsoon season here in Texas has subsided just a bit a week or so, I finally got out to ride and noticed a couple of things. When it first started it would idle for a second and then just die. Start it again and it would be ok. So I figured ok it sat for a week and it's just a hiccup. So I rode into work and noticed it lightly surging or bogging (almost a bucking but not so much). So I got to work and figured.. meh I'm just tripping (shop had my bike for almost a month waiting on parts (which is ridiculous, but that's a WHOLE DIFF STORY). So I got out of work and noticed it on the way home too.

So this morning I go out to start it and it does the same thing. Starts for about 2 sec then dies. Restarted and it runs. I pulled the seat and noticed my NEG batt terminal to be loose so I tighten it down and it starts right up. I noticed my fuel pump making some funky noises that I don't remember. So I figured ok maybe it's fuel delivery. I know to get to the plugs you've got to remove the tank, so I'll check for kinked lines etc... that might have happened during the shop's antics.

I've got a full tank (almost full) so I also dumped some inj cleaner in there just to see as well.

I'm gonna ride into work again today and I'll post an update later around 10pm CST.

EFI owners PLEASE take a look at this video and tell me if it sounds like your fuel pump starting up and stopping.

On another note I figured I'd just add that I've got a set of Larry Cook turnouts (supposedly that the shop installed. I noticed around the coupler section there's exhaust leaking out the underside too... :-( I think it's missing a reducer or two, because you can feel the exhaust pumping out (possibly fouling plugs?).

I dunno I don't want to rant about the shop and bash them quite yet....YET being the key word (stay tuned).

Thanks in advance guys!!!

Im not sure how you would go about testing it. I can't find any listing for pressures or amount of fuel flow. I did pull the line and primed the pump and got a good flow of  fuel out of it.

To my knowledge it doesn't need two o2 sensors. As for getting a hold of Larry I've been trying for weeks and no reply... other ppl I know that have similar exhaust only have one o2 sensor I'm not even sure how you would put another o2 sensor in the mix. The power commanders for the gv only support one o2 as well although you get a wider band. I'll chime in with more info tomm.

so your pump sounded good then?
pumped out fuel ok?
now lets get with the exhaust-
looking at the factory sensor location where the two exhaust come together,  you have only 1 sensor
now  because you now have true dual exhaust you should have two.
the factory setup only has one because it takes the reading off both cylinders so now you are just taking readings off one cylinder now.
just like a car or truck switching over to duals with EFI  , it can be tricky that you are not getting any more performance out of it.
hyosung EFI computers are nonadjustable so the computer may be confused and will adjust for it.
of course there may be more to it then this and like anything else PLEASE talk to a qualified mechanic!!!!!
one more thing- please post your results when you find out fix it!!
