"Tasted Important"..."I'm BATDOG"

« on: July 10, 2012, 03:13:09 AM »

Just thinking about my next vacation options and I saw that there are motorcycle tours in Romainia that are (a) cheap; and (b) travel on such amazing roads as the Transfagarasan highway, while taking in the sights such as the various "Dracula's Castles", salt mines, etc.

Question is, has anyone here done one of these?

The one I was particularly interested in was:

http://www.romaniamotorcycletours.com/romanian-mountain-passes-tour.html

This is self-guided so (as Banana Harley put it) if you find a piece of road you particularly like you can go back and do it again Grin And (if you can get your mate to actually stop) you can take lots of photos  laugh
They also offer the same tour using a car so it would be conceivable to have the ladies drive support Undecided

Just at present we are running up against Mrs Banana's conviction that Romania is overrun with AK-47-wielding ex-Nazis, and the Lady-Icedog's conviction that Icedog and Banana Harley ain't going on their own Angry

Well its cheap for 4 people and the 4th counts as a pillion  Grin (of course that's not counting the airfares, that's where the cost starts to come in  Sad )

And what am I? Chopped liver?
OK, it isn't Romania, but US Pacific Coast, Alaska and Route 66 are pretty cool tours Wink
Allot of overhead goes into these tours. It sounds like a pretty good deal but I would be concerned about the accommodations at that price.

I agree there are some pretty cool roads on the US Pac coast and also Colorado and even Florida Keys is interesting but hey it ain't the Transfagarasan  Grin ... and Stelvio Pass (earlier Top Gear World's Greatest Driving Road) and St Bernard's Pass (The [original] Italian Job opening) aren't just around the corner either  Roll Eyes - I didn't say I would necessarily stay in Romania after the ride [:evil grin:] Sorry but the USA can wait.

And according to every report I can find the Romanian B&Bs are excellent, as long as you avoid the 5 star "Hiltons" good accommodation is cheap and comfortable.

Having said all that the Lady Icedog is now pushing for a trip to the Cook Islands... tropical islands vs European Alps...  Angry

Tough call there. I am not sure which I would choose. Cook Islands is much more fun if you are both divers Wink
