So, I just discovered that my clutch switch doesn't work.  For some reason, the reason is I'm stupid, I had been thinking all along that it was my kickstand switch.  The bike only starts in neutral.  But today, I discovered  that the kickstand being thrown down will still kill the engine.  So, must be the clutch switch isn't closing.  Has anyone replaced or serviced this switch before?  There's nothing in the shop manual about it.  Indeed, aside from referencing its operation, it isn't even installed on the bike in the shop manual, so no service notes.  It seems like I have to take the lever off and then, well can't really tell what I'll find.  Seems almost like the switch is one with the lever bracket and the whole shebang might need to be replaced.  Could always shunt it, I suppose, and be done with it...

i have not had mine apart but i believe there is a set screw that holds the switch in place. the switch may have slid back so it wont close the circuit when the lever is pulled or possibly crud in the switch housing. spraying contact cleaner my clear out the junk. a multi meter on the leads to check continuity when testing the lever will help.

you might be able to simply unplug it. if unplugging it doesn't work, simply connect the wires on the bike side and test it again (think they're just the push-together connectors). if it doesn't work "open", and doesn't work "closed", you can eliminate that as the issue.

personally, i just ditched the clutch switch altogether.

I did all the periodic maintenance today, and while I was at it, I took off the 10mm nut and bolt that forms the pivot for the clutch lever and dropped the lever away.  I pulled the clutch switch out, it's just set in, sprayed it with WD-40 and exercised it a few times and voila!  Back in business!  I hope I can fix the a/c in my MINI Cooper in a similar way.  I know that's got to be a dirty contact somewhere, too.
