hi Gunslinger

I'm keeping the starter, for those 'outside the cafe' moments when a kick start looks cool  Cool ...... and for when the battery goes dead. For general use though I do like just pushing a starter button  Cheesy

Gotta say, I'm very much looking forward to hearing the way the engine ticks over, after watching that video.

Love the sidemount and tail light.

Keep in mind that's a rephased motor  Wink

If you want monster sound, go for one with a 700cc overbore, shorty pipes, lectron carbs and custom ports... Skip to the 1m point to hear the beast:

yeah been looking at that Hughshandbuilt site a bit recently. Once I get the bike back will most likely look into some of the stuff he does for the xs650 block.....not got a bottomless pit though... so gotta save some cash up first before starting these bits. I'm away from next thursday on holiday, and hopefully, hopefully, the bike will be finished and handed back 1st week of June for when I get back. Then I can start to annoy my neighbours  Angry

Rephasing is the only real big 'must-do' mod, and Hugh does good rates on rephased cranks and cams on exchange. If you're brave enough you can do it yourself, he doesn't go through the nitty-gritty on his website, but way back in the day when he built his first bike he did a step-by-step of rephasing his XS motor. Other mod I'd recommend are Lectron slide carbs, they've got some special patented fuel-regulating system that basically self-tunes. Those are pricy though at about $700 a set Shocked But then getting a set of good-condition XS650 carbs will set you back about $300 anyway.

That one-kick bike I posted is bone stock save for the rephase.

Love what you are doing to your bike, especially what you have done to the tank and handlebars. I am about to the same, just hope I find a good mechanic. While looking at your photos I could not help noticing your front tire. It looks as if it's facing be wrong way. Why I say that is because the tread is facing back to front. When the wheel turns while riding on a wet road you want the water from the centre of the tire to be pushed out to the sides. But the way your tire is going it's going to push the water to the center. Maybe I am wrong about your tire but on my tire....the tread looks the as yours....is facing the other way, with the arrow showing pointing the way.

Hi Nomad,

yeah I can see what you mean about the tyre and will check the tyre walls for arrows when I get the bike back....... which STILL is in the workshop. Ordering and waiting for parts, sometimes big, sometimes small, is just becoming a real PITA now. I have seen the bike though and it is nearly complete - just missing a couple of small gear cogs from the starter assembly. If I wasn't insistent on having an electric start I'd be riding now, but to be honest I don't want to just rely on a kicker (I'm lazy)  Smiley

At least the weather is cr*p here in UK at the moment so I don't feel Ilke I've missed too much riding yet.

 Grin more pics

Modded the front fender subtly, and repainted the rear to match front fender and fuel tank.

Speedo back on with relocated ON/OFF switch
