Some have noticed that the transmission becomes more difficult to shift.  Some also have stated that they find that it becomes more difficult to locate neutral.  I just did my 500 mile check up.  I also noticed that the transmission seemed to be getting more difficult to shift and at a idle finding neutral was becoming harder to locate.  I was going back and forth between first and second missing neutral.  The remedy is
 LUBRICATE THE CLUTCH CABLE

I did mine and what a difference.  The bike is just like the day I bought it, nice and smooth.
The cable is not lubricated from the factory;  if it is it is minimal and wears away.  The cable then is creating more friction from rubbing on the housing.  This extra friction is causing the cable to stretch more.  This extra stretching is making the cable longer.  The longer cable is not pulling the clutch release as far as it is suppose to.  All the adjustment in the world will not get rid of this extra stretching.

it is not that difficult to do.  The cable has two adjustments.  Find the one by the engine and loosen the lock nut, then turn the adjuster to close the exposed threads.  You will see the clutch lever has excessive slack.  Next turn the Knurled adsjuster lock and the adjuster on the handlebar all the way in and have the slot on both facing out in line with the slot on the lever.  Pull the clutch handle in and grab the cable to remove the ballend from the lever.

Pull the cable out of the slot.  Get a piece of tape and wrap it around the clutch housing making a funnel to hold the lubricant, I use 1 inch masking tape.  Fill the funnel with oil and then move the cable up and down so the oil will be guided down the cable into the housing.  do this three, four or five times to get plenty of lubricant in there.

Reassemble in the reverse order.  Two things to remember when you readjust the clutch.
1)  Do the major adjusting at the engine.
2)  Never leave the adjuster on the handle with the slot facing torwards the driver. If the slot is facing the driver the adjuster locks threads are exposed to the cable.  When you pull the cable it is forced torwards the driver.  The treads on the adjuster lock will cut right through the cable in a short very time and the cable will snap.  BE SURE TO HAVE THE ADJUSTER SLOT FACING OUT TORWARDS THE FRONT OF THE BIKE.

Happy riding to all

Thank you for this tidbit of information.

I too am suffering from the same fate.  However I just got mine back from the shop.  I'll see how it fares.  If not then I will most definitely try your remedy.

Thanks a bunch!!!

I know it has been a while since anyone has posted to this thread but I just wanted to say, thank you TD.  I've been noticing that my bike has been getting a little harder to shift.  I have about 1200 miles on her and I've noticed that I seem to have a little more play than I used to with the clutch lever.  This helps a lot.

One other question, what type of oil did you use?  Thank you.

There, I fixed it.

Did you perchance mean "posted to this thread" as opposed to "posted to this site"? We have 2,255 posts this month already. Grin

On topic, TD has a wealth of information in his noggin and we all appreciate his sharing.

Yes I did mean posted to this thread.  OOOPS! Shocked

I'm guessing it is basically the same procedure for the GV250?

i would imagine that it is going to be the same lubing procedure for any bike with a cable clutch.
