Going direct? Congrats man!!! I've been trying for that for years. They've got the budget to pay me contractor rates for nine years, but not direct rates? Whats up with that?

I'm happy for you man. Congrats again! Grab it and hold on for dear life!

I was pretty happy overall with the direct State rate....now I've taken a pay cut to go with the university.  And the State paid my present job at 20K lower than any others that I've seen for it, so I'm sure as heck not thrilled to be ending up with another 2K less.  Yes, I know I should be thankful that I have a job, etc...but when you spend a year designing the move of a whole data center, you pretty much should be able to expect to be employed as something other than a "windows admin" when it's done....particularly if they interview you for a management position first?

(Or so I continue to believe - and will continue to do so when I see all of the diagrams that I developed to move 100 systems and their background storage in what was about 36 hours being used for ads for the "assisting" contractors....who probably never had it so easy and spent a great deal of time taking photos of our rack cabling and my diagrams... Sad )

So, final tally in on the new job - great to have one, but the monthly pay is now approx $500 net less per month for 10 months of the year.  PC800 is once more NOT in the picture at all at this point - let alone the ST7 or VStar 950!.. Cry

<Sighhhhh>....Now I'm trying to decide if we sell one of the "Souls" or if I go without beer and smokes.... Huh

WOooooodddyyy....<Sigh, again>....you got anything for me?  Embarrassed

Mac, if you don't buy that PC800, I'm going to have to hurt you. Cheesy That is a very nice example and you should swoop it up! If I hadn't bought the Bonnie, I would seriously be leaning towards it!

Well, Bill - take your best shot, please...  Cry

I had to tell Tony this week that it wasn't feasible with my effective pay cut.  He had an alternative buyer available, and by this point I imagine that that person is now seriously happy that he got a great PC800!...

So, me and Piggie will soldier on as a duo...just a shame that we can't do more on the weekends with the Mrs to make it a trio!  Undecided

Just be glad the Mrs. is willing to ride with you. You'll get a two up bike some day and the three of you will ride.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy....

Oops...you said "Mrs is willing to ride WITH you", didn't you?  Sorry, the additional note of the "three of you will ride" just brought my imagination into play...
 Tongue

In all seriousness, though - at this point I don't see a likely change in the next couple of years... unless someone here wants a decently maintained 2008 Piggie for around $US 2K?... Wink

Well now, isn't this interesting...fast-forward 5 years and I've now had my Suzi 800, the Vulcan 900 and the Thunderbird 1700.  And none of 'em worked out for me in the end.  Took a real bath on the Triumph (should have expected that, since I've never had luck with TR's and still have the TR6's taking up my garage).  Might be looking again at the mid-range and am reconsidering the ST7...then I came on this when I Googled!  Go figure!   Shocked

I know that this is an old thread, and that I'm also getting older and more decrepit....but I couldn't pass up the chance to say that it hit my nostalgia gene right where it hurts...  Cry

My friend Bill has said that the only bike I've actually been happy with was Piglet and I should consider that again...and well I might.  Would like to have belt instead of chain, a bit more power and a little heft - which leads back to ST7.  But with that bath I took, I'm not sure I'm looking at new ST7 prices - even new GV250's are kinda out there...

da**, kids - hope everyone else is doing well!

Mac,

Wish you were a bit closer to Virginia.  I happen to have my 2010 ST7 up for sale.

Hmmmm....That might not be totally outside of the realm, since Fran's family is in VA and mine is in MD.  Could you maybe PM me with the pertinents and some pics?  IE - where in VA, mileage, any issues, what you want for it?  I don't know how soon anything could happen on this end since we're hitting the holidays and not great ride weather up there, but if you aren't pressed for the sale, then maybe we could make something work out?
