We all dance with death from time to time...

« on: May 23, 2009, 11:13:52 PM »

Hello Every one,

So.. After 1 month of waiting for parts (Fuel Tank, radiator) and valve adjustment, i received my bike back. as a routine check over the motorcycle, i tried to sync the carburetors, rear cylinder was pulling close to 40+cmHb. and the front was pulling near 25. Adjusting the rear carby, did not help one bit... all the way in ... all the way out.. nothing worked. so with some advice from my mechanic i was told to clean out the carbys...so me and my father took apart everything cleaned out the carbys and found no dirt. and nothing to clean... as we were reassembling the bike we found that the front and rear carburetor link was warn out so much that the adjustment screw just took up the slack barely. to fix it. me and my father used some steel tape to take up the slack, once the slack was taken up, we were able to get the carburetors within 1-2cmHb, no more popping at idle and no more clutch basket noise.

Just thought i would share my experience with everyone.

Posted below is a picture of the worn link rod. Should be a perfect circle, but off to the top right of the hole you can see the slack.

Good info and good temp fix.  For more long term I would find a bushing, drill out the hole and press in the bushing.  Thanks for the info.

LOL laugh laugh Cool

i am more of a visual guy myself no worries, i also tend to rabble one about things. but here is it in a diagram, Part Number 15 the the whole that is boxed off, is supposed to be a perfect circle but after a years use has elongated to a oval. the problem was that my front cylinder would start to work before my rear cylinder even stated to open its butterfly valve. so it was almost like i was running on one cylinder at idle.

I think TD i am just going to replace the link, it only 13 bucks or so, i dont think thats too bad.

Bill, can you pin this as a sticky and start a new census on this issue? I'd like to see if this is indeed a wear issue or just the way the bushing is made. I'd like to see some feedback from new/low mileage GV650 owners....preferably pics.
