16 Mar 2011 - Short Outage tonight

The hosting company that hosts AlternativeCruisers.com will be physically moving the server to a new data center sometime between 9 PM, March 16th and 5 AM March 17th (MDT). The outage is expected to be between 1 and 3 hours.

I apologize for any inconvenience.

14 Oct 2010 - Happy Anniversary ACD!

Happy 5th Anniversary to ACD!

Five years ago today, Alternative Cruisers Discussion was opened to the public.

I opened ACD because I was researching bikes for my re-entry to riding and came across the Hyosung GV250 and the KYMCO Venox. As part of my research I found the List Groups on Yahoo. Not generally liking that format, I purchased hosting services and built a forum. At the time I used my personal domain of pdacore.com.

Within a year I switched it to AlternativeCruisers.com and the site has been growing ever since.

There are a lot of people to thank for ACD's success, way too many to list here, but I do want to highlight a few.

From the beginning:
Nate - All I can say is thanks. You've been there since the beginning. Charter Member.
Bob Witte - A true friend through thick and thin. Charter Member.
AmishCrackDealer - Probably the most even tempered member on the forum. Charter Member.
HARCGUY - a.k.a. Hyosung Alpha Riders Club founder. Never said a nasty word about ACD when we came around.
Nycholas - a.k.a. Aquila The Hun. Though we had a falling out later, I still give him his due. He was my right hand here at ACD and my friend for a while as well. He helped build the foundation of ACD and deserves acknowledgment.
freakn'girlie - You guys may never know how much she does for this site just by being who she is (and slapping me down when I need it).
Lmbrguy - A good friend who is always there.
Mike Watters - Always insightful, a very smart fellow to have around. Charter Member.
TD - Probably one of the smartest people I know where motorcycles are concerned and a wicked sense of humor. Charter Member.
icedog - Funny, irreverent, great story teller. He's a bonus to any website.
Mac - What a guy. Go to the bar and he'll buy you a drink.
sagedil - He came here to heal and help. He did both.
CBXMAN - The dealer that took a chance on a fledgling forum and helped it become what it is. Charter Member.
dpetrick - A wonderful eye and a level head.
Richard Jordan - Friend whose help let me help others.
My Wife and daughter: Your patience with me while I tended the site meant the difference between it's success and failure. Thank you both so very much!

Don Berkey - Charter Member. I miss you my friend. I hope your teaching the angels how to ride. :'( :'( :'(

As I said, there are many, many more to thank, but I ...

ATK Announces Rebadged ST7 at Bonneville!
Thanks to Pat Yearick for the heads up!

I'll let you read the article for yourself, but I'd like to point out the piece that piqued my interest.

S&T Chief Operation Officer Jimmy Park....subsequently piloted the motorcycle to well over 100mph on both passes.

Why do I find this intriguing? Because this means that the COO of S&T is an experienced rider. That can only benefit owners, and potential owners, of Hyosung and ATK products!

02 Sep 2010 - New Forums!

After a discussion amongst Admins and Moderators, it was decided to offer our Members a place where they can discuss their Mainstream Manufacturer motorcycle.

Therefore it is our proud privilege to introduce several new forums on AlternativeCruisers.com.

We now have forums for:
Harley-Davidson (already existed)

If discussion of any particular model becomes popular, then a sub forum will be created for those posts.

23 Aug 2010 - ACD Server Crashed

The server hosting ACD crashed last night. The server itself was fixed rather quickly, however it corrupted one of the tables in the database. I have repaired it, but there may be some late posts missing. The last post I see was at 18:56 ET. If you have a post that is missing or made a post after 18:56, please re-post it.

The site could most likely have been up last night, but I wasn't sure how to repair it and it took me a while and a lot of googling to figure it out this morning. I've never claimed to be a DBA, but I do the best I can without involving third parties anymore.

My sincere apologies for the inconvenience.
